Former WSU basketball star Lance Allred to release book on Tuesday, May 26.
Longshot: The Adventures of a Deaf Fundamentalist Mormon Kid and His Journey to the NBA
Lance Allred graduated from Weber State in 2005 where he was a 2 year starter for the Wildcats. He played his freshman and sophomore year at the University of Utah.
Where has Lance been since WSU?
Since playing for Weber, Allred competed at the 2005 Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, he played with the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2005 Reebok Vegas Summer League, he played overseas in Spain, France and Puerto Rico.
| |
The Summer of 2007 he played for the Boston Celtics in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. In the Fall of '07 before the D-League season started, Lance played for the EA Sports team where they traveled around the U.S. playing colleges. They made a stop at USU where they beat the Aggies 86-81.
After signing with the Cavs: "It's been a long three years since college. I've been a lot of places that would have made a lot of people quit."
Allred was born in Montana and moved to Salt Lake City, Utah when he was 15. He attended East High School where he was teammates with Talmadge Eyre. Eyre also played basketball for Weber State (2001-03). The 6-foot-11, 260-pound Ivan Drago look-a-like was up to 275 at WSU where he dominated the Big Sky.
Lance's red-shirt year WSU won the Big Sky title and went 16-0. His junior year WSU lost in the semifinals to the eventual champion EWU. His senior year, he led WSU to the conference championship game where the 'Cats ended up losing by 2 after a Jamal Jenkins half court shot with no chance with almost 3 seconds remaining on the clock.
Before spending the last 3 years in the D-League and NBA, Allred played in France, Spain and Puerto Rico. He suffered a knee injury that required surgery. He didn't play much for the Stampede in 2008, but started all 38 games before getting the call from Cleveland in 2008.
Achievements with the Idaho Stampede
2009: Lance spent this past season with the Stampede where he was a starter and averaged 15.5 ppg and 9.2 rpg while starting all 45 games. The Stampede lost in the first round of the playoffs at Austin 119-116. Lance was on the All-Star team for the second year in a row.
2008: Lance started all 38 games. His 16 and 10 helped guide the Stampede to a record-setting 18-game winning streak. He was an All-Star and won the inaugural H.O.R.S.E competition at the D-League’s Dream Factory Friday Night during NBA All-Star Weekend. While Lance was with the Cavs, the Stampede won the D-League title and Lance received a ring.
Lance's College Stats:
17.7 ppg, 12 rpg, 51% from the field, and 60% 3-pointers. His senior year for the Wildcats he scored a season high 32 points and his best rebounding game was 21. He was the 3rd leading rebounder in the nation, only Paul Milsap (12.4) and Andrew Bogut (12.3) had more boards.
